A Closer Look at Julia Siporin.....
My Resumé

My career in 4J began in 1988. After earning my basic teaching credential at the University of Oregon, I was immediately accepted into the Resident Masters Degree Teaching Program. My synthesis paper topic was about the contributing factors to a student's willingness to participate in the writing process. This led me to Nancie Atwell's model called "The Writers' Workshop". My first three years as a teacher were at Spencer Butte Middle School where I taught Language Arts & Social Studies block classes as well as a number of self-designed elective courses such as "We Can Make a Difference", "Racism Free Zone", "Yarn Arts and Tea", "Earthday Everyday", "Teen Issues", and "Animal Rights". I also served the district as a TAG teacher and technology specialist at Twin Oaks, Bailey Hill, and McCornack elementaries for a few years. In 1993, I was adopted by Yujin Gakuen Japanese Immersion Elementary where I taught 3rd grade for eleven years, and now I am happily immersed at Gilham Elementary School teaching third grade.
