Of Benchmarks, Report Cards, and Scoring Rubrics...

Third Grade Benchmarks You can go directly to the Oregon Department of Education and see the content standards for various curricular areas. Look in the category called "Benchmark 1" which third grade falls under. Benchmark 2 covers up to 5th grade.

• Our 4J Report Card comes out twice a year: in late winter and again at the end of the year. Our parent conference in early fall serves as one of our reporting periods.

Scoring Rubrics: I teach the state rubrics (a 6 point scoring guide) to students so that when they receive feedback on their class writing, speaking, or open-ended math assignments, they'll know how to improve discreet skills in each of the areas. The scoring guides also give them a language to use with one another when they work with each other in editing groups. You can view the actual state scoring rubrics for writing, speaking, and math by clicking on the link above & typing "scoring guide" into the search box. Third grade is considered "elementary / Benchmark 1. It opens up as a PDF file. For your convenience, you'll find the traits on which they're scored sans details below.

Writing: Ideas & Content, Organization, Conventions,Word Choice*, Voice*, Sentence Fluency*.

Speaking: Ideas & Content, Organization, Delivery, and Language

Math: Conceptual Understanding, Process & Strategies, Communication, Verification*
