ECOLOGY

Welcome to the

Rachel Carson Center for Natural Resources

Ecology Cyberclass

Ecology is the science that is concerned with how individual organisms and populations of organisms live together and with their physical surroundings.

Three basic concepts provide the framework for the study of ecology:

  • Living things do not exist as isolated individuals or groups of individuals.
  • All organisms interact with others of their own species, with other species, and with the physical and chemical environments that surround them.
  • All organisms have an effect on each other and their surroundings.

This course will explore these concepts in a fun and interactive way. Imagine a classroom with no walls, a school with no bells, an opportunity to earn high school credit in a totally new way. The internet will be the classroom and your home, room C-8, the outdoors, and the greenhouse will be the laboratory. Please read the course syllabus carefully before getting started.
