Projectile Motion

Day 1 (Mon Sept 28):

  1. -Went over HW from Friday: PSE pg. 7 #7-8, pg. 12 A-6, A-7, A-12.

  2. -Teacher explained ball-launcher demo & asked for predictions—would the balls land simultaneously, or would one of them land earlier?

  3. -After demo, discuss separateness of vertical acceleration from horizontal motion.

  4. -Students read the introduction to Projectile Motion: PSE pages 21-22.

  5. -T worked Freefall in 2-d example problems, PSE pg 22-23, using Step 1, Step 2 process.

  6. -HW: PSE pg 24-26 #10-16.

Day 2 (Tues Sept 29):

  1. -Warm-up: a couple of 2-D projectile motion problems

  2. -Went over HW

  3. -Did Reaction Time Lab

  4. -HW: PSE pg 28 #A-10, 11

Day 3 (Weds Sept 30):

  1. -Warm-up: a couple of 2-D projectile motion problems

  2. -Went over HW

  3. -Completed Reaction Time Lab

Day 4 (Thurs Oct 1):

  1. -Showed how to draw velocity vectors on projectiles.

  2. -Showed how to calculate their true velocity and direction (by adding vectors).

  3. -Handed out a set of motion practice problems. Did three as warm-up.

  4. -HW: Problem set do at least three in the first section (probs #1-7) and five from the second section (#9-24) as preparation for FRIDAY TEST on Freefall & Projectile Motion.

Day 5 (Fri Oct 2)

  1. -1-D and 2-D Motion Quiz

Day 6 (Mon Oct 5)

- Projectile Motion Lab: Land a marble in a cup, after finding it’s Vx

Day 7 (Tues Oct 6)

  1. -Warm-up: Determine the (horizontal) launch velocity of a ball bearing.

  2. -Pairs questions: (Ch. 3, Projectile Motion), then discuss answers.

  3. -Hand back Motion quizzes from Friday.

  4. -(If time allows): watch 15-min video: Big Air rules.

  5. -HW: Text Ch.3 end (p.41), Qs 29-38.

Day 8 (Weds Oct 7)

  1. -Discussed HW

  2. -Handed back & discussed last Friday’s quiz.

  3. -HW: Had students take home conceptual questions, do #17-33.

Day 9 (Thurs Oct 8)

  1. -Discuss the homework.

  2. -Take Concept Quiz.

  3. -Handed back Projectile Motion Lab.

  4. -Introduced Wondering Physics Presentation, and began scheduling it.

  5. -Reviewed use of motion & acceleration formulas.

  6. -Handed out a problem set (prep for a second quiz next Tuesday).

  7. -**** We can replace an earlier quiz score, if you do better, not hurt earlier score if you don’t do as well.

  8. -Did “Shoot the Monkey” (a projectile motion lab experience).

Day 10 (Mon Oct 12)   (Mr Frankel out sick.)

  1. -Handed back, went over Conceptual Quiz

  2. -Review day

Day 11 (Tues Oct 13)

  1. -Practiced for Quiz retake

  2. -Discussed Wondering Physics again

Day 12 (Weds Oct 14) (Early release day)

  1. -Wondering Physics planning time

Day 13 (Thurs Oct 15)

  1. -Linear Motion & Freefall Quiz retake

  2. -HW: read Ch 4, sections 4.1-4.4, do problems p. 57 #26-31.
