1.  Activity - Commuter Calculator

Go to the site linked above to calculate the cost of driving to school and work using your family car.  Calculate as if you drove to school each day for a month (on school days only) AND for your parents/guardians driving to work each day to get a family total.


Record your results in your notebook.  Then, answer these questions in your notebook.

  1. 1.Describe your family’s vehicle(s) in terms of their make, model, year and approximate gas mileage.  How does this affect your carbon footprint in general compared to other vehicles?

  2. 2.What were your totals for school? For work? For parents to work?

  3. 3.What other trips do you routinely make in your car?

  4. 4.How practical would it be for you to adjust your driving habits?

  5. 5.If you were in the market for a new car, what would you look at and why?
