Lesson Three: Exploring Forest Ecology

Activity One: Northwest Forest Organisms

In this activity you will explore some of the living things that exist in Oregon's forests and create a food web showing the interrelationships between these organisms. Both parts should be completed and turned into your folder.

Part one List the names of 3 animals, 3 herbaceous plants, 3 trees, 3 invertebrates and one species of local fungi that are commonly found in Oregon's forests. Identify each organism as a producer, consumer, or decomposer. Resources in the classroom can be used for this part or search the internet.

Part two Create a food web with the organisms. You may draw the organism or just put its name in the appropriate place. Remember to draw arrows from the organism toward the organism that eats it.

Submit the completed activity in your folder.
