Soil

Lesson 1

Activity 1

Activity 1: Most people have some opinion about what "good" soil is from their personal experience. Interview one of your parents or an accessible adult to find out what they feel makes a soil a "good " soil. Summarize their response in a paragraph. Record specific words that they use. Do they describe a color, a smell, earthworms oozing out of the soil? Do they describe other soil characteristics like soil acidity, drainage, or nutrients? Finish your assignment with a couple of sentences giving your impression of their answer. Was it scientific? emotional? How much, in your opinion, did the person you interviewed know about soils.?
