Activity 1 and 2


Activity 1: Identify 3 different natural resource issues currently of concern in this area. One example is the destruction of wetlands in West Eugene. Look in the local newspaper, The Register Guard, use the Churchill Library web page resources (especially the full text Oregonian service), contact some local environmental organizations, etc.

In the space below give us the following information:

  • Describe the issue
  • How does the issue impact the community
  • Identify the competing interests (for example Hyundai vs. Citizens who are concerned with the environment)

Activity 2: Identify a natural resource issue currently of concern in an area of the world (outside of North America) that you are interested in. Look in the Christian Science Monitor, National Geographic and other periodicals,use the Churchill Library web page resources, and search the internet.

In the space below give us the following information:

  • Describe the issue
  • How does the issue impact the country
  • Identify the competing interests (for example wood products industry in Brazil and the indigenous tribal people)
  • Analyze the similarities and differences with respect to one local issue and this issue
