Due Thursday, October 2

Name __________________ Period ________

This week you have a choice between two different homework assignments. Read the descriptions below and complete only one of the two options:

Option One: Sidewalk Map

Choose a section of a sidewalk that is exactly 20 feet long. Create a detailed colored map on plain white 8.5" X 11" paper of the sidewalk section that includes the following:
• A scale (example one inch = two feet)
• A legend illustrating any features on the section.
• Exact location of all major sidewalk features (cracks, weeds, holes, etc.)
• Location and description of any unusual features (puddles, dog poop, etc.)
• Show curves, drops and gains in elevation, and slopes.
• Indicate which direction north is.

Option Two: Map Research

Use all the resources available to you including the internet and Churchill's library to locate as many different types of maps as possible. The links below may be helpful as well. Examine at least 3 different types of maps and write a brief description of each type to include:

• Describe the map
• Name of map type (ex: political)
• Main use of the map type (ex: to show political boundaries)
• Location found (ex: library atlas, National Geographic)
• Special features of the map type (ex: colors to indicate habitat types)
• Map scale
