Botany/Horticulture Lesson 4

The purpose of this lesson is to become familiar with the main structures and parts of plants. To complete the lesson get a copy of the reading assignment from your instructor, read the packet, and then complete both parts of the lesson listed below. Part 1 is an on-line quiz over the reading, part 2 is described below.

Lesson 4 Part 1

Lesson 4 Part 2: Find a good example of a living, flowering plant outside or if none are blooming find a good color photograph of one. Sketch the plant as it appears and then label all the parts shown in Figure 2.1 of the reading packet. Answer the following questions about the plant:

• 1.What is the leaf arrangement pattern of your plant?
• 2.Are the leaves simple or compound?
• 3. Briefly describe the process of photosynthesis, include the equation for photosynthesis.
