Textbooks:

8th Grade Math:

You will receive up to 3 textbooks in a 3 ring binder that you will be responsible for taking care of. Please keep the binder and textbooks in the best possible condition. It is your responsibility to replace anything that is damaged.

Algebra:

Spencer Butte is using CPM (College Preparatory Mathematics) curriculum. You will have one soft cover book which is required to be in a 3 ring binder.

Geometry:

Spencer Butte is continuing to use the CME Geometry book. All geometry books are required to be covered with a book cover.

Spiral Notebooks:

Students are required to have spiral notebooks for math class.

Homework:

Daily homework assignments will be completed in your spiral notebooks. It is strongly encouraged that you do your homework on a daily basis. The spiral notebooks are collected every Thursday. Each homework assignment is worth 5 points and will be awarded if it is complete and all work is shown. Notebooks will lose 10% for every day they are late until half credit.

Problem of the Day (POD):

POD’s will be on the board when class begins. You are to do your work in your spiral notebook. If you are tardy and miss the POD, you are out of luck for those points for the day. POD’s are worth 5 points each for a total of 25 points per week. POD’s will be related to the previous evening’s homework and will be what I use to check your understanding of the assignment. This is the accuracy portion of your homework grade.

Absences and Tardies:

Students are responsible for getting assignments they have missed due to absence. Students can e-mail me, look on the website or ask about the missed assignment in class. You must be in your assigned seat with all your materials when the bell rings. Two unexcused tardies result in an afterschool detention.

Grades:

Grades will be available on this website and will be updated every two weeks. Grades will be based on homework assignments, in-class activities, quizzes and tests. Letter grades will be given using the following scale 100% - 90% A, 89%-80% B, 79% - 70% C, 69% - 60% D, anything below a 60% will result in an F.

Bathroom Policy:

Students are allowed to use the restroom as the need arises. However, no student may choose to go during the first or last 5 minutes of class time. These are important times in class as they will be time for the POD and assigning the day’s homework. This will be strictly enforced. Students should plan accordingly.

Technology Policy:

Mp3 players, cell phones, gaming systems, and I-pods distract from the learning process. For this reason, and others, these items will not be allowed in the classroom. Please remember that school policy states that the above listed items must be in the locker from 8:47 until 3:25. If students bring these items to class, they will be sent to the office.
