Get A Loan Basketball
Setup and Equipment:
  • The center circle in the middle of the gym is the bank.
  • Soft Targets - (All that you have) Put them in a big container in the middle of the gym, these are worth $1.00
  • Polyspots (All that you have - make up a value for different colors)I differentiate the value of each spot in the following manner:
    • Green and Yellow = $20.00
    • Blue and Green = $10.00
    • Purple and Orange = $5.00
  • Each team lines behind a cone in front of a basketball hoop in the layup drill style.
Rules:
  • Players are lined up and the first person takes one shot only.
  • If a basket is made the player proceeds to the center circle and takes a soft target and brings it back to their line.
  • If the shot is not made, the player just goes to the end of the line.
  • After the shot is taken the player that stands next in line is the rebounder and becomes the next shooter.
  • Play continues with shooting and rebounding.
  • Players always return to their original place in line.
  • Since most gyms have different basketball heights, after 3 minutes the teams rotate and go to the next basketball hoop.
  • Play continues until all of the $1.00 targets are gone, then the teams begin taking the big money (Polyspots worth $20.00/$10.00/$5.00)
  • When all of the money is gone the game is stopped and the teacher explains that this is called "Get a Loan Basketball" and it is now time to pay the loan back.
  • When the game continues players will be returning the loan by taking two or three items (the money) back to the bank.
  • The game continues until everything is returned to the bank.
