HW 12:  December 8 - 15, 2017

Name Practice:  Trace your name twice.  Use the  rest of your lines for your first draft of your winter break plans.

Explode the Code Book 2 Blends Phonics:  Lesson 1 - Review Lesson.  •Page 1:  Circle the blend that matches the picture.    •Page 2: X the same word.   •Page 3:  Read, write and x it. •Page 4:  Circle it •Page 5:  Match and write it.  •Page 6:  Spell and Write it.  • Page 7:  Yes or No?  •Page 8:  X it.  Page 9: •Spell it.  You can look back in the packet to see how to spell the words. ***PARENTS PLEASE CORRECT THIS PACKET WITH STARS, STICKERS OR HAPPY FACES***.

Spelling: Digraphs ch, tch

chin, chop, much, chip, rich, chick

Challenge Words:

match, pitch

Taking a test that includes the  challenge words will not lower your average.  We compute two scores, one with and one without challenge words.  The higher score is entered into the grade book.  Thus, missing one of the six words is 83%.  Missing one out of 8 words is 88%.  If all six basic words are correct, 100% is still your score for the grade book.

There is also a dictation sentence worth 10 points given each week. A sample dictation

sentence for this week is:

I can match the pitch of the song..

This sentence is just an example of one using the two challenge words and some of the six spelling words. The Friday test dictation sentence will be different, but will usually include both challenge words.

There is one point for starting the sentence with a capital letter and one point for writing a period at the end of the sentence. Each of the eight words spelled correctly is a point. Dictation is also a second spelling score recorded in the grade book each week.

Writing: Write three sentences about your plans for your winter break It can start:

On Winter Break I want to_______________________________.

I will see_______________________________________________.

I might feel ______________________.

Blue 4j District High Frequency Word list:  We are continuing to time test students on the 24 Pre-Primer 3 blue word list.  The goal is to read all 24 words in 30 seconds or less.

Home Reading Program Green or Yellow envelope:  A book has been assigned to your child to read to you each night.  Please mark on the cover sheet if this book is too easy, too hard, or just right.  Bring the envelope back every day to get a new book if you like. Return the envelope on Friday to get a new book to read for the weekend and the next week.   We keep track of the number of books read throughout the year.  You can add your own home books or library books to the list.

Monthly Reading Record Sheet: Keep track of minutes read on your monthly reading record.  The goal is 400 minutes this month.  That means a minimum of twenty minutes a night. You can also count reading blue slipped work to your minutes as well. Awards are given at the end of the month.  Please total your minutes weekly and total them at the end of the month for us.  Parents modeling reading to students count also to the total monthly minute total.

No Winter Break homework EXCEPT for reading 20 minutes a night.
