Memos are used by employees to communicate within the organization. For the purposes of this assignment, your memo will communicate who you interviewed and what you learned.
Memos are read by many different employees, therefore audience is a major consideration when writing a memo. For this assignment, your audience is me and other students in the class who might benefit from learning about what you discovered in your interview.
Memos are brief, usually one page. They are designed to inform, request, or instruct and they are usually focused on one main idea.
Memo format varies between companies. But, whatever the format, there are two main parts in memos. At the top is the heading, which includes:
the date;
to and from; and
reference or subject.
Next is the message, which includes:
The introduction states who you interviewed, when and where the interview took place and why you chose this person. This is done in one or two sentences.
The body includes enough detail so the reader can understand what questions you asked at your interview, what you learned overall and how you felt about the information you learned. The reader should get a feel for the spirit and contents of your interview.
In the conclusion, you restate the main point of what you learned overall.
