Student Name: __________________________________ Country: ____________________________ Meeting Place: __________________________________ Length of meeting: ____________________ Step One : Please introduce yourselves. Once everyone is present, circulate this sheet and everyone signs everyone's sheet. Each student should sign the document. Name:__________________________________ Name: ______________________________________ Name:__________________________________ Name: ______________________________________ Name:__________________________________ Name: ______________________________________ Name:__________________________________ Name: ______________________________________ Step Two : It is strongly suggested students wait until the second meeting to formalize the following: Each country needs to determine the roles of different individuals in the group. Typically the most successful countries have a high level of coordination and organization. Your group should elect individuals into the roles below. (It often takes more than one meeting for leaders to emerge!) President or Co-President : _______________________________ _______________________________ The president coordinates the overall efforts, helping to make sure that the delegates of the country, the treaty signer, and the accountant are all “on the same page.” The president may also call for the vote on each issue at the conference within the respective country. The president should be a person who is well-organized, calm, and good at working with people. Treaty Signer or Co-Treaty Signer : ___________________________ ____________________________ The treaty signer is the only person that is authorized to sign treaties, thereby committing the country to vote a certain way on a given issue, or committing points to another country. It is crucial that a treaty signer make sure that the majority of the members of their nation want to accept the treaty. Therefore the treaty signer needs to be responsible, and excellent at communicating with others. Accountant or Co-Accountant : ______________________________ _____________________________ The accountant keeps track of the points that a country either gives or receives through treaties. Once official treaties are signed by the treaty signers of both countries, the points that are given or received need to be tracked by the accountant. After each issue, the accountant communicates net point changes to the point person on points. The accountant needs to be well organized, level headed, and handy with numbers. The accountant will also need to communicate often with the treaty signer. Delegates, Researchers, Etc : ______________________________ _______________________________ The other members of the group are just as important as the treaty signer, accountant, and president. With many issues and 53 countries at the conference, there is an enormous amount of work to do! Some people may want to do further research on an issue and report back. Other people may want to get in contact with other countries to see what their positions are on other issues. Everyone needs to leave the meeting with a clear understanding of what they will do. If you are not an accountant, president, or treaty signer, write down your role here: __________________________________________________________. Step Three : Discussion of Issues : Start discussing your positions on the issues at the conference. You may want to begin with the issues that are most directly connected with your national concerns. (you will find that all issues relate to your country in some way or another) During your discussions write down the issues discussed and your current positions. (you may find these positions changing as you learn more, and offers are made) ISSUE ONE: __________________________________________________________________________ Current Position: What must we do to support our position, form a position, or derive benefit from our vote on this issue?
