Greetings Parents!
- Friday is a half day; kids will be released at
11:30. Lunch is at 11:00. This is a 4j Planning Day.
- Tests! Tests! Tests! State & District Reading & Math
Tests are happening over the next three weeks. This
week testing happens on Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday. The next
two weeks testing is on Tues, Wed, Thurs. Please make sure your child
gets plenty of rest, eats a healthy breakfast and has a healthy snack
to eat at school. Encourage your child to do their best work; the
test should reflect how much they've improved this year in Reading
& Math. Reassure them that although the tests are important, nobody
will be held back because of a poor score. "Relax and do your best." If
some of you want to be a reader for the Math test, Alicia Kruska
will be doing a quick training so that you can read the Math test,
according to State Guidelines, to a student who may need help reading
the test. We are assessing their Math skill, not their Reading skill.
Let me know via email, phone, or a note early this week if you're
interested.
- Heroes Project - Students are thinking about who
they want to study for their Hero project. Although we are studying
people from the Civil Rights Movement in class, they can choose any
person who inspired or helped make life better for others.
- New Scholastic Book Orders are available online. A
stapled packet was sent home in the Friday Envelope last week. Orders
are due Wed. May 14th.
- Math: Students have a 5 page Measurement packet to work on this
week. Topics include length (US & metric), weight (US & Metric),
temperature, time, volume (US only, they need to know liters, milliliters
as well.) Please review this packet with them and correct each
page you can. Just initial or sign at the top of each page. Our math curriculum
is weak on measurement instruction. We are working on some other
math skills in class to better prepare them for the state test.
