Greetings Parents!
- Kids didn't bring the assignment sheet home today because I couldn't
find where I put them ; as it turned out, the sheets were in the
tech lab. Sorry about that! I have their Math homework too. Very
helpful!
- Welcome Back! I hope you all had a relaxing and safe Spring vacation.
- No school next Friday, April 11 for a district wide planning day.
- New Math Unit: Fair Shares (code: FS) involves fraction work:
how wholes can be broken apart into equal parts, the concept of equivalency
(1/2 = 3/6). See the math unit family letter in the HW folder.
- Reader's Workshop next few weeks: Students in my Reading class
will be learning how to DETERMINE IMPORTANCE in non-fiction...
how to record important ideas, target key information, determine
what to remember, distinguish your thinking from the author's, and
how to construct main ideas from supporting details.
- Endangered Animal Projects: Students will be polishing up their
typed projects this week; some will be working on a Keynote presentation
(like Powerpoint). We will be squeezing in presentations over the
next few weeks. I hope to schedule 8 presentations for this Thursday,
4 for next Tuesday,4-5 for next Wednesday, and 12 for next Thursday. We
are going to be starting our next third grade project next week,
so we need to wrap this up. I've extended all I can to give kids
extra time.
- Field Trip to the Portland Zoo is April 24! I'm collecting $2/
student to cover expenses.
- Welcome our student teacher, Kim Kelsay. We are fortunate to be
hosting a fabulous student teacher from the University of Oregon
this term. It'll be great to have two teachers working with our class.
She has some exciting plans for this term which she'll share with
you in an upcoming letter.
- Lifeskill: PRIDE - Satisfaction from doing your personal best.
