The Environmental Law class in the Rachel Carson program explores the social, cultural and economic effects of environmental legislation and laws. Students will examine past and current environmental conflicts and laws and will assess the effectiveness of resulting legislation and its impact on the natural world and urban centers. Weekly assignments and projects will require regular use of the Internet for researching and extensive analytical writing. An independent research project that focuses on a local issue facing the Eugene area (such as the Toxic-Right-to-Know law, the Endangered Species Act, wetlands mitigation and the development of the Eugene Parkway, etc.), is also planned. Because course assignments require extensive research and writing, students may request English or social studies credit in this class. Please see instructor. |
