Business Card Design

Design a serier of business cards for yourself using your personal logo design.

Preparation

Create a "business card" folder. Save all files into this folder.

Download this file. Copy/paste its contents onto your template.

1. Card A - No Bleed

• your color logo
• pertinent contact info
• services you can provide
• 3 color maximum - black counts as a color, white is not a color, tints of colors are fine
• CMYK colors
• for now, no photos, internet pictures, clip art, raster images, etc. Stick with just what you can do with Illustrator.
• NO BLEED. This means that you'll need to leave an 1/8" white border on each edge of the card.
• include a 3.5" x 2" black outline (even though it wouldn't be printed for a real job)

Design a horizontal and a vertical business card.

2. Card B - Full Bleed - Vector

• your color logo
• the same information (phone number, etc) from the previous card
• CMYK colors - no color limit
• for now, no photos, internet pictures, clip art, raster images, etc.
• vector clip art from ourcollection (not the internet) - vector
• full bleed - the card itself willl still be 3.5" x 2" but the artwork will bleed 1/8" over at least 2 edges
• indicate trim marks - trim marks should be on top (printed above) all other artwork
• maintain 1/8" safety zone for text elements
• include a 3.5" x 2" black outline (even though it wouldn't be printed for a real job)

Design a horizontal and a vertical business card.

3. Card C - Full Bleed - Raster

• your color logo
• the same information (phone number, etc) from the previous cards
• CMYK colors - no color limit
• high resolution image (250ppi) - raster - must be saved as flattened TIFF file

4. Client Card

download card templates.
download client feeback process templates.
• It's best to meet face to face with your client to go over feedback. However, if you need to work via email, then save the feedback form as a PDF file. Look at this image to see settings.
• Email client and attach PDF. Here is a sample script.
• It is your responsibility to make sure that the client gives sufficient written feedback. This is how you will document and prove "communication skills" later in the term for your CRLS.
• You need to get their approval (minor changes OK) in order to print the card. Have them sign the approval form and return it to you. It's also OK for them to email their approval.
