Unit 4 Assignment - instructions (15 minute assignment)
Download a photo (from the internet) of a simple object with a distictive shape (cat, guitar, ice cream cone, vacuum cleaner, old-school telephone, Mr. Eagen's bald head, etc.). Be sure to choose a photo with lots of curves. It may help if the photo has a white background but it's not necessary.

Want credit?
_ The photo should be at least 800 pixels in size. Lock the photo.
_ Trace the object using the pen tool.
_ The line should be smooth (curved) and it should be one continuous line. You'll likely need to try this several times.
_ Close each shape. They can overlap.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE A GUITAR PHOTO! However, if you want to use the guitar photo from the video then it is here.

The video shows some extra steps that we will do LATER. For now, this assignment just deals with tracing the object.

Want credit?
_ SERIOUSLY! Group the head parts. Group the facial parts. THEN move, modify (isoloate).

Extra Credit Challenges

Extra Credit #1 - Using Specialty Fonts
If you have finished Unit 12 and you have extra time then I'd like you to tackle a few slightly more challenging activities. The first of which is similar to Unit 12 but it involves searching for fonts that aren't installed on our computers.

adv_outline

EC1.1 - download the Illustrator template file for this activity
EC1.2 - how to download and install a font
EC1.3 - "My Name" activity instructions

Extra Credit #2 - Comstock / Offset Path
How do you create a common outline around objects or text?

adv_outline

EC2.1 - instructions
EC2.2 - quick instructions

Extra Credit #1 - Challenge!

adv_outline

The LTD logo was designed locally by the most prestigious design firm in Lane County. They got paid handsomely for this job. Most of their time was spent on brainstorming and coming up with the overall concept. The actual technical skill is fairly simple. In fact, at this point YOU have ALL the skills required to create this design using Illustrator.

The challenge is to recreate this logo. It is quite possible to recreate it in 10 minutes if you've truly learned the skills from the past 3 weeks. However, it will likely take you a half an hour.

Download the Illustrator file for this assignment. The LTD image is provided as is the necessary font.

I'll upload the solution video in a few days so that you can see how it's done.
