2013-2014

There are a lot of trends and changes that are constantly happening in education. For better or worse it is part of the fabric of education. There is no right or wrong philosophy of education but I feel it is important for parents to be aware that each teacher’s values and worldview make up their view of education. As a teacher I am also a life long learner and am fascinated by educational research and following leaders in the educational movement. On this page you can follow what I am researching and learning. Through this you have the opportunity to see my philosophy of education as well as further define your own.

I have always been ambivalent about Twitter and its place in our culture. After debating with Dr. Mark Szymanski at Pacific University I have decided to give it a try. My sole focus of using twitter is to follow leading educators and researchers specifically around educational technology and reading. If interested click on the header above or here.

For the past few years I have been addicted to TED. Ted.com is a website that has the simple message of “ideas worth spreading.” This site brings together the most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in under 18 minutes or less). Talks throughout the world are posted on this website are often subtitled in various languages including Spanish and Japanese.

Whether you are new to TED or a TED-aficionado I have started to compile a collection of my favorite TED talks as they relate to education and learning.

Do you have a hard time understanding why your 15-year-old niece speaks the same language she texts? Disturbed by her series of ever-changing Facebook profile pictures taken in the bathroom mirror? Are you baffled by the 23-year-old whiz kid who’s taken over your company’s IT department? Better yet, do you find yourself asking your 10-year-old son to set up the networked printer at home? Rest assured, you aren’t the first (nor will you be the last) person to be completely mystified by the digital generation.

Diigo is a free social bookmarking, research, and knowledge sharing tool created to mimic the ease of taking notes while providing a network for sharing and discovering information.

Although the uses of Diigo are numerous and vast I wanted to create a YG network for parents and teachers to share “gems” they found on the Web. Click on the box above or here to see the YG page.            Diigo FAQ
